A Banner Week for Darcy Burner
A week ago, with the help of Maria Cantwell, the campaign raised a quick $50,000 to help counter whatever money Karl Rove was pulling in for Bush rubber stamper Dave Reichert.
Meanwhile on Tuesday there was the Primary election and even though neither Dave Reichert or Darcy Burner had Primary opponents, it was important for both candidates to show strength in the raw numbers from the party faithful, and with the count still ongoing as of Friday night Burner had 43,663 votes to Reichert's 42,375.
Finally, the Burner campaign's 10 day fundraising effort was initially trying to bring in over $100,000, but they blew through that number on Tuesday and raised the bar to $150,000. As I write this, the total is at $148,995 with the final update to be posted imminently. One can only expect that number to be above the $150K target.
In 10 days that's an impressive sum and will help pay for the necessary advertising and voter outreach needed to get the good word about Darcy Burner out to as many voters in the district as possible - if not all. Money is pouring into this campaign at an impressive clip, as more and more people recognize the strength of the campaign and believe their donation will be backing a winning candidate.
If you have time available to help the campaign out please volunteer to ring doorbells, phone voters, put together mailings and put up yard signs.
Speaking of yard signs, it appears that opponents of Darcy Burner and Rodney Tom have been taking down signs I had seen along my daily work commute. Such tactics are disgusting. Money from supporters went into purchasing these signs. Volunteers helped put them in their locations. However, vandals and thieves supporting Republicans Dave Reichert and Luke Esser couldn't stomach the threat both of these Democratic candidates represent to their cushy rubber stamp incumbent Republican opponents.
You can keep track of the campaign via the campaign Web site, where the news page and blog details their daily progress. Darcy has recently posted a few updates of her own highlighting National Public Lands Day next weekend, and the Primary results. There is also a short new podcast.
There are only seven more weekends before the November elections, and fewer before voters begin voting by mail. The time is now to make a big push to help the campaign and reach voters. Check out the upcoming events, including campaign events in Redmond later today, Tacoma next week, and the first debates with Reichert.
I hear that Reichert will try to portray himself as an agent of change in the next few weeks. What a laugh! Republicans like Reichert all over the country are pretending to run away from the Bush administration while Bush himself, his VP Cheney, and his "brain", Rove, all have come to fundraise in person for their loyal rubber stamper Dave Reichert. A vote for Reichert is more of the same - Don't be fooled.
If you want real change then you need to support Darcy Burner and vote against Reichert and his Republican clones. It won't just impact the 8th District, but it could impact the House majority in D.C. - and that's the kind of change that is sorely needed!
Update: Final tally in the 10 day goal to raise $150K was $156,230.
