One Mission Accomplished, The Fight Continues

The Netroots set themselves a challenge last week: to raise $100,000 for Darcy Burner in 4 days. In the past few days the goal of 3,000 ActBlue donations was added. Done!

When you add in donations made directly to the Darcy Burner campaign, the $100K target was far exceeded:

In the meantime Bush probably helped add two to three hundred thousand to Reichert's coffers, but at a very high price. Republicans will claim Reichert lost nothing with Bush's visit, but they are dead wrong. Reichert will have to spend all of the money raised and more to undo the damage this visit does to his re-election prospects. Their hope is people will forget, but unlike the mainstream media, bloggers don't forget easily, and we will be reminding every one of our readers, at every occasion, about how Reichert has backed the President 100% of the time on his Iraq occupation.

This is not about running against Bush - that's a given, we are all against Bush. This is about running against a representative that has voted in favor of Bush's Iraq policies 17 out of 17 times. Reichert's vision for Iraq is whatever Bush has in mind. Be damned the disaster. be damned the dying and wounded U.S. soldiers of yesterday, today and tomorrow. Be damned his constituents.

Well, we've had enough, we're not backing down, and we're fighting back. With dollars from thousands for Darcy Burner, not just a few "fat cats" and elite Republicans. With an army of volunteers. With feet on the ground, and votes at the ballot box.

This one week of fund raising and rallying behind Burner is just the beginning, and not even that as the struggle has been engaged for many, many months already. These goals behind us, we now move on to the next, and then the next, and then the next, until ultimately we achieve our final goal: ousting Dave Reichert and electing Darcy Burner in November 2008. I hope you join in the fight on the long, hard road ahead.
