Cantwell: "I Would Have Voted No"
"If I knew then everything that I know today and the Republican leadership still brought it up for a vote, I would have voted no," Cantwell said in a statement Monday. That is what many of Cantwell's detractors have been wanting to hear her say for months.
"If the Bush administration had done the hard work of building an international coalition to really contain Saddam, there would have been no vote," she said.
She also accused the Republican-led Congress of failing to provide aggressive oversight of the war and said Congress must hold the administration accountable for more progress toward "beginning to bring troops home this year."
So now that she's said it will they openly support her (as opposed to stating they'll vote for her but not campaign for her)?

Maria Cantwell is still voting for every bomb , bullet and rocket that is destroying Iraq , the GAZA and as of late Lebanon . She does not support a timetable for leaving Iraq . Over 100,000 Iraqi civilians are dead in the wake of Maria's "lack of knowledge". Nearly 2600 U S soldiers are also dead due to her and others voting record . Our Social Security is being spent in Iraq , I'll vote for her when she stops supporting the war by deed , not just idle words .
I agree with spit - this should be something she says loudly and forcefully at every campaign appearance, and should be part of her publicly stated platform. If she speaks out about what this money could have been used for instead of occupying Iraq, then she will earn my respect.
Until then, she can go fly a kite.
Well given the newness of this statement, I think she probably will be saying this more in the future.
BTW all 100 Senators voted in support of the Israeli attacks on Lebanon. Not to excuse Cantwell, but she's hardly the only one that voted "for every bomb , bullet and rocket that is destroying Iraq , the GAZA and as of late Lebanon".
This is huge news -- thanks for unburying it.
Yes, let's hope Cantwell proclaims this now everywhere. We need her to champion the cause of peace as she has championed energy self-sufficiency. Good news. It's been linked and front paged on Washblog by Left Shue.
My question is: why was it buried?
You'd think David Postman would have blogged on this by now. He must be preoccupied.
We blogged on it, and our exec director posted Cantwell's full statement. follow my sig link.
here. it didn't work.

Nice to see NPI blogged on it - no surprise there, but I was referring to Postman - quite surprising since he mentioned it in the print edition.
Just fyi, I used the exact same title on my post, but it was entirely accidental. Hope I didn't violate the blog copyright!
Once you copy the words they become your views and opinions, so copy away - 'tis the sincerest form of flatulence (or something like that), even if it was accidental.
So would that make Switzer the "accidental bloggist"?
