Final Push: Give What You Can To Burner Campaign!

I was a guest on Goldy's Podcasting Liberally panel Tuesday night, and one of the topics of discussion, no surprise, was Darcy Burner.

Joel Connolly of the PI had recently written about the Burner campaign and indicated she needed to do more events within the 8th district she is running for Congress in. Of course Joel doesn't really notice that she is of course doing so with greater regularity than any of her forays into Seattle.

But I felt that another thing about this campaign was being missed if you continued to compare it with how Reichert did in 2004, or how Democrats fared in elections past.

The fact of the matter is that this campaign that Darcy is running is unlike any that a Democrat has run before in this district. She got into this race far earlier than her predecessors. She is bringing in far more money than her predecessors. She has been able to attract national attention from multiple sources, including the DCCC, EMILY's List, and the Netroots.

Simply put, she has been able to make this a race of national importance, not just an obscure local one, and as such it is increasingly being seen as the barometer of the Democratic Party's ability to take control of Congress. Many now believe that if Darcy Burner cannot unseat Bush rubber stamp Republican Dave Reichert, then the Democrats will not take the House.

We cannot let Darcy Burner fail in this bid. It is now or never.

To that end, the Netroots are making a mad last dash out of the 2nd quarter fundraising period that ends tomorrow at midnight. Markos is making appeals to his Daily Kos readers:

If I could issue dictates without you guys flipping me the bird in response, I would ask for one thing -- that everyone contribute $10 to a candidate. Any candidate. Whether from the ActBlue Netroots Candidates list, or a candidate off the list, local or not, everyone can afford to throw $10 to a candidate of her or his choice.

While overall cash numbers are important, so is building an army of supporters. Perhaps even more important. Let's support our best leaders, show them we have their back. And if we can't afford to throw real money at them (which most of us can't), at least we can show them that we're standing behind them. So please, $10 to one candidate.

Don't make me nag. You all know I hate this.
And his appeal is producing results. 40% of Netroots donations to the Burner campaign since May 23, when she was added, have come in the past 72 hours - 30% in just the past day! The Burner campaign has set a goal of $50,000 for this week by the end of Friday. Let's blow that number out of the water and really show that Netroots support national and locally is strong, and that this year Democrats will not accept anything less than a real fight for this seat and a win in November! Please give whatever you can before the month is over.
